This is a very sturdy hiking pole, carved from a young eucalyptus tree, harvested  on the west coast of Portugal in the summer of 2010.
The pole has four differente spiral carvings, and  all together seven stylished religious military order crosses on the upper part.
For the artist, these crosses carry no significance beyond being mere ornaments and frequently seen symbols on  numerous buildings and artifacts from early medieval time.
However, who knows?... they might bring good luck and protection on your hikes?
