Kampen, Holland, 2007, www.brandulph.net
After my close to nervous breakdown in Amsterdam, caused by millions of tourists, murderous Dutch bikers and taxi drivers... Kampen was the Holland I wanted to lean back in for a while. Kampen is an old Hanseatic port/trading town, and is beautifully kept... virtually free from tourists, with canals, alleys and back streets looking exactly like they did before the world started moving with the speed of oil, and ships moved with the sea and the wind.

The huge erect iron pecker, seen on this picture, blocking a entrance in the old city wall, is indeed a most potent sign of the townhall's attitude.
They want to preserve some of the charming beauty of the past... when the rythmic clopping from horse shoes and wooden clogs against the cobblestones, could be heard in the streets and back alleys.

I like their attitude... Kampen is worth a visit!

The two guys on the picture however... did not...  but finally realized that they would need a bulldozer to move a solid erection like that.
