The Templar Globe..
(The armillary sphere)
The Order of
Christ cross.
I found this facade of interest.
It is the entrance to a church commissioned some time in the 15th century by the widow of King Joao II, and all which is  standing after the 1755 devastating earthquake.

The Cistercian Order, and therby the Templar Order played a vital role in the founding of the Portugese nation.

When the  Templar organization was made illegal by  Pope in 1307,  it simply transformed into The Order of Christ which was founded  in Portugal in the year 13 14, and the traditional Templar Cross was slightly redesigned. It was also this cross that Columbus had in his sails,  being a Templar / Order of Christ member  himself.

For anyone interested in a short chronology on the birth of Portugal and its link to the Templars, will find  such information
here

The Armillary Globe is found on pillars and buildings all over Portugal, and it is in reality a Templar emblem as much as their eight pointed cross was and still is.

I have a page dealing with Portugal and the Templars. It is written in Norwegian, and is found HERE. )
